After collecting bean stalks and letting them dry under the sun, Solentiname's campesinos beat the dried stalks with sticks to separate the edible seeds from the useless pods. This can only be done during the hottest hours of the day under very intense heat.
Much like the previous photograph, the man in this picture is pounding rice to separate it from its husk. (I've tried it - it's extremely tiring).
When you don't have a rifle, you hunt iguanas with slingshots.
Fishing on lake Cocibolca is just a part of this boy's daily routine.
Solentiname's artisans produce pretty, brightly-colored balsa wood sculptures (as you can see in this post). In order for them to make their crafts, however, the artisans must cut and carry the wood back to their homes. Although balsa wood is an incredibly lightweight material, carrying a log of this size for half an hour is not necessarily easy.
