Catharsis
As a photographer I have become increasingly critical of my work. In the past month my severe self-criticism has made it particularly difficult for me to pick up my camera. I finally worked my way past this disappointing period of stagnation last night when I forced myself to grab my camera, tripod, and shutter release cord and go for a walk. The time flew past as I made self-portraits and landscapes under the radiant full moon. I woke up today feeling light and confident. Catharsis.
I've always enjoyed making and looking at self-portraits. Here is an old post featuring a much lighter self-portrait I made over a year ago. If you admire self-portraits you might enjoy some of Francesca Woodman and Miru Kim's work.

Tiago, you have no idea how much better I felt after reading this. I haven't picked up my camera since before Christmas and I can't honestly say I've been happy with any of my work for months now. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one.

Hey Hannah, self-criticism is an integral part of the creative process. The dissatisfaction you have felt will only make you a better photographer as long as you first find out what the problem is and then get proactive about solving it. Be strong, pick up your camera, and go make some pictures.
