Solentiname Party Scenes*

I'd wanted to shoot a party in Solentiname ever since I got here, but, since I'm not much of the party-going type (I barely drink and I don't dance), I was a little intimidated by the prospect. I also felt as though shooting in a party environment would be too intrusive and make my subjects uncomfortable. I'm happy to say that I finally shed my apprehensions and got around to shoot a party this past weekend.

As in most parties here, there are three crowds: 1) the dancing crowd, 2) the timid crowd, and 3) the drinking crowd. The first move about on the dance floor enclosed by the chain-link fence, the second wander about looking lost or confused, and the third linger (or stumble) around and eventually end up looking lost and confused as well. I ended up focusing more on life outside the dance floor, though, as you'll notice, I managed to take some pictures of all three crowds. I think you'll be able to distinguish who belongs to what crowd.

*Dedicated to Ying Quan Tan, a great friend and photographer who inspired me to make these pictures with his own set of party pictures.
